X iaomi Redmi Y2, the new selfie-centric smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer, will go on its first flash sale today. The smartphone will be available on Amazon India, mi.com starting at 12:00PM. It will also be available offline via Xiaomi’s Mi Home stores. The smartphone was launched last week, and has already garnered a lot of attention among consumers in the Indian market.
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is the successor to last year’s Redmi Y1, and it brings new selfie-imaging capabilities to the forefront. The smartphone is aimed to take on selfie-centric devices from brands like Oppo and Vivo. With Redmi Y2, Xiaomi is mostly delivering a follow-up device that adheres to some of the design elements seen on other devices like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi 5.
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 price and offers
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 starts at Rs 9,999 for the base model with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. There is a higher version with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage that will retail for Rs 12,999. In terms of offers, the smartphone comes with Rs 500 instant discount when customers make their purchase using ICICI credit and debit Cards. Airtel subscribers will get Rs 1,800 instant cashback, and up to 240GB data for free with India’s leading telecom service provider.
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 design and specifications
The Redmi Y2 follows on the tried and tested design language, and bears strong resemblance to the popular devices in the Redmi series. In fact, the vertically stacked dual rear setup is positioned exactly like that of Redmi Note 5 Pro. Otherwise, the smartphone features a plastic body that seems premium like metal with rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and Mi logo at the bottom.
At the front, the Redmi Y2 takes a modern stance with thinner bezels surrounding the display. The smartphone features a 5.99-inch display with HD+ resolution of 1440×720 pixels, and 18:9 aspect ratio. Powering the device is Xiaomi‘s favorite Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, similar to one found on Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 4. It can be configured with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB internal storage.
The Redmi Y2’s real selling point is the camera at the front as well as rear. At the back, Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi Y2 with dual 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. At the front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie camera with AI beautification modes, HDR and LED flash. It also supports face unlock and connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB port and 4G LTE.
The Redmi Y2 runs MIUI 9.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo, and will be updated to MIUI 10 with new gesture support later this year. The smartphone is supported by a 3,080mAh battery and will be available in grey, gold and rose gold colors.
